- Sense of selfWhen trying to get through the ups and downs of life it can be hard to show ourselves grace. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not perfect and I still need to work on my terrible habit of interrupting people, but that doesn't mean I should love myself any less. If you catch my drift, you might interpret that to mean that in the midst of our imperfections it is still important to see the good in ourselves. After all, the love we have for ourselves sets the tone for the love we have to give to others. If we can't show ourselves grace in the midst of our mistakes, faults, and accomplishments-- how can we extend that towards others? You may ask, how do I practice self love? Well, luckily practicing self love is malleable and flexible to the different needs and likes of each one of us. The first step is to expand your self awareness and become comfortable with navigating this larger space. Be honest with yourself and your feelings. Find outlets that suit your needs and satisfy you emotional hunger. Do whatever you need to do become more open with yourself. I promise... you won't regret it. I'm not here to boss you around, I'm just here to help you self actualize what you already know deep down. Once we start being more honest with ourself, we will see that for the most part... the parts of our lives we wish would change, we have the power to change. And I'm sure whether or not you want to admit, one of the most important things on that list of things to change, is yourself. Whether its a part, pieces, or a whole, theres always something we wish we could change about our body, our personality, our habits, our family, etc. It's when we realize that our perspective has the power to change that very thing... we realize we've been in the driver seat the entire time. And i'm not referring to external events in which you have little to no control. I'm referring to the controllables. Controllables are intrinsic elements of our life that we have full control of. And one of the main ones is nothing other than... yep you guessed it SELF PERCEPTION. Another essential controllable is the amount of SELF LOVE we practice. "So what you're telling me is that if I alter my self perception and start practicing self love.. even if no other aspect of my life changes... my life will get better?" YES. Enacting positive change in regards to these two controllables will create a domino affect in your life. But this blog post was just supposed to speak about the first step.. so lets start there: by expanding your self awareness and become comfortable feeling your feelings in healthy way(s) of your choice.
